Tread lightly

13/09/2023 Tread lightly

Hello everyone,

Today we went to the Tread lightly caravan and did activities. We were in groups of 6 or 5. In my group there was Ifalemi, Loiloi, Ayyan, Rayyan, and Zaynab. We did four activities all together about Electricity, Bugs, Our planet, and trash.

Electricity

Electricity was the first activity I did. There were two things we could do. The first one was a light bulb station where you had to grab a — to make the light bulbs to turn on. The second station had an exercise bike. There was a router that had three things plugged in. A Hairdryer, Sander, and a Lamp. You had to peddle on the exercise bike to make the items work. My favourite part about the electricity station was the bike!! It was so much fun turning on the switches and seeing what would turn on.

Bees

There was a microscope where we saw living worms and dead bees. Did you know that worms don’t have any ears, nose, and eyes? Apparently their slime helps them smell!! We saw fours bees. two bumble bees and two regular bees. The bumble bees were fluffy. The female bees have stingers. And do all the work. Sometimes bees put some hector in there mouth then give it to another bee that gives it to another then the last bee brings it back to the hive. Bees produce honey and without bees we wouldn’t have any fruits. So instead of cutting down and plucking out flowers try to grow them. And if you have to cut down a tree try to re-grow it.

Trash

Our teacher Sarah was talking about how there is so much trash in our eco system, Seas, Lakes, etc. At the trash activity there was a drain felled with rubbish. All the rubbish that gets into the drain will find its way to the beach. A fish could inhale a piece of rubbish thinking its food and die. There are so many people out there that enjoy sea food. But with all fish instinct there wont be any more seafood for people to enjoy because people are too lazy to put their rubbish in a BIN. We learnt a chant “only rain down the drain” meaning that there shouldn’t be any trash in the drain only rain.

Our planet

For this activity we sat on the floor with Coco (Christina) the activity was about recycling and what goes in what bin. There was also a model showing rubbish in 1 day 10 years and 100 years all the food turned into dust. Most of the  plastic stayed the same but some plastic got rusted or got smashed.

At the end we made a pledge that we would start doing.
